Hey all! I've gotten a few requests to help someone learn to make a snowglobe in PSP. So I figured this would be the easiest way:) I'm sure there are other ways of doing this too, but this is my way:)

First I will have a few images here that you will need to download onto your site so we can work together on it. There will be a globe tube, a stand/base tube, a few things to put inside it and a star tube. These will be as zip files that you will need to download and save them to your desktop for now so they will be easy to find. Once you have done that, then we can get started:)

globetools.zip

Now to export these tubes into your psp, open each one in psp. Then for go to file, export, picture tube. Don't change anything, but make sure there's a name for it. then press okay. do this for each tube. Then you can close them and delete them off your desktop (they are in your tube file now)

Now on to the globe part:)

First open a new white image any size, but I like it big (500x500) to give me room to work.

Make sure your Tool Options menu is open. That's the 13th button on the top.

Use the tube tool which is the 16th button down on the left side.

Then I use tubes that are already a globe. there's tons of places where you can find tubes to download...I'll add a few of my favorite sites at the bottom of this page.

Once you have your tube tool, go up to the Tool Option menu and look for the globe. You can re-size it to any size you want, but for now, do it at 100%.

Place the globe in the top middle of the page.

Then go back to the Tool Options and find the base. Again later you can mess with the size, but for now have it at 100%. Place the stand under the globe. Try and position it right in the middle where it covers part of the bottom, so it looks like the globe is sitting in the base. You may have to undo and replace a few times (I do...lol)

Then pick out the stationary object(s) that you want and place them inside the globe. For this part we'll use the fairygodmother first. resize her to 40%.

Once you are satisfied with the way it looks (I normally play with this part for a while...lol undoing and redoing and all that) Then we will add the words. (this of course is optional, but this way you'll know how to do that too:))

On the left side, click the A button. Click the cross hairs where you want the words to be (don't worry we can move them later). Type what you want to say. You can preview it as you go. Change the font to how you want it. and the color. The Stoke is the outline of the letters and the fill...of course...is the fill color:) Make sure it's floating and the antialias is checked. Then press okay.

The little ants (as I call them) should be crawling around your words. You can now move the words to where you want them. To get a shadow around the words (make then stand out) go up to Effects, 3d effects, drop shadow. Using the preview pane, you can change things there to make it the way you want. I normally use black, blur of 2 or 3, opacity of 100 vertical 1, horizontal 1 or 2. Then hit okay.

Right click with the A tool to get rid of the ants.

Then take the crop tool (fouth button down on the left) and crop the image to just around the globe and words.

Then you press shift-D That will duplicate the image again. Do this three or five times. (odd numbers look best when animated)

After that, arrainge the images up so you can see them all.

Take the tube tool again and grab the star at 30%. Place how ever how many stars you want in the first globe, then same number randomly in each of the others.

Then *gasp wheeze* (almost done:)) take your dropper tool (ninth button on the left) and right click on the color around the globe (the white)

Go up to colors on the tool bar and hit set palett transparencies.

There may be a window that pops up saying in order to set transparencies, this image must be reduced to a single paletted background layer...hit the don't warn about this anymore button and then yes.

Then you'll have a decrease color depth, just hit okay.

Then click the middle one...Set the transparency value to the current background color (should be a box that's white) then hit okay.

Then go back up to color and hit view palett trasparency. Your white around the globe should look checked gray and white.

Then save it as a gif file nameofimage1.gif Save it to your desktop so we can find it easier. Make sure you put the 1 in.

Do the same thing to all the images but save them as 2, 3 4...etc...

THEN...*gasp pant* Minimize PSP and open up your animation program.

The first button at the top is the animation wizard hit that and make sure each screen is as follows and hit next.

Same size as the first image frame

Transparent

Centered in the frame and with the canvas color

Yes, repeat the animation indefinitly

You can play with the time you want each frame displayed...each globe will be different depending on how you want it to look. For this one do it at 35. (we can change it later if too fast or too slow)

Then add image and add your globe images, make sure it's 1-5 in order

Then finish

Then the second to last button on the to is play animation. Hit that and if it's faster or slower than you want, use the shift key to highlight all the frames. Then go to animation at the top and hit frame properties and change the time to what you want. You can also add comments there about who created the globe with your Homepage URL.

Then you can save it. When the saving windows pop up, just keep hitting next and next and etc... Then you are done! WooHoooo Way to go great and wonderful job!:)

And the finished product...

Okay, that's really it. I know it seems like a lot, but once you get it, it goes really fast:)

Let me know if this helps or hinders:)
